More than a swimming pool - at the Open Monument Day, the Grugabad Friends and the team of the Grugabad Essen show the largest and most beautiful open-air swimming pool in the Ruhr region every 15 minutes. Wave pool, sports pool, children's pool with slide, diving pool with 10-metre tower: the spacious, terraced landscape of Essen's Grugabad was designed by Essen-born architect Gerd Lichtenhahn, who had previously planned the Grugahalle together with Ernst Brockmann, which opened in 1958. The first bathing season in the Grugabad began on 17 June 1964, and the 45-minute tours include a look behind the scenes.
